Ask us for peonies in August and you'll get a gentle no. Not because we're difficult, but because peonies don't grow here in August. What does grow here changes almost weekly, and it's the reason our bouquets look different across the year.
This is roughly what the Waitaki gives us, month by month. Your mileage will vary by a week or two depending on the season's mood.
The local year
Spring (Sep–Nov): Ranunculus, anemones, tulips, sweet peas, freesias, blossom branches. The most generous season. Everything arrives at once and the colours get silly.
Summer (Dec–Feb): Dahlias take over and stay until frost. Garden roses, delphiniums, cosmos, zinnias, sunflowers. Hydrangeas peak late summer.
Autumn (Mar–May): Dahlias hang on until the first proper frost, then it's chrysanthemums, berries, foliage with real colour, and the last of the roses.
Winter (Jun–Aug): The honest season. Proteas and leucadendrons from further north, camellias locally, hellebores late winter, lots of structural foliage. Bouquets get moodier, in a good way.

Why season matters for your wallet
An in-season stem is cheaper, stronger and better-looking than a forced one. Three wins for the same money. August peonies would come from a cold store at triple the price and half the vase life. October peonies (imported sometimes, early local ones occasionally) arrive like they mean it.
When you order without a stem list, we fill the bouquet with the best of that week. It's why "florist's choice" is always the smartest option on any order form, ours included.

Booking wedding flowers? Ask us what's likely to be blooming on your date. The season check is part of the consult.
The gap months
Late winter gets honest about supply, that's when we lean on Canterbury growers and the Christchurch market for the gaps. We still design seasonal-first; the top-ups fill specific needs rather than replacing the local base. Nobody's bouquet is ever entirely imported unless they asked for that.
